Farewell, My Love

Chapter Two: Something to Live For

He answered the call reluctantly but proudly. He knew these would be his last days in this life.

He had studied Earth culture all too well. After once visiting Earth in 2009 and reading all of the Dune series, one idea stuck with him: Scytale’s nullentrophy tube. Science Fiction, yes. But with him it could be possible. Alhtough he doubted any Time Lord would agree. Still, surely Romana? Why not possible life than definite death?

Although time ironically was precious and nearly too scarce, The Doctor finished making a few modifications to the Tardis.

He made a recording, in case he would not have time later:

Hello Doctor. I know you. You want to kill yourself. But you can’t. You have something to live for.

We’re going to be a father soon. With my bad memory, after this life, you won’t remember this after regenerating. IF you sulk in grief, a woman in your future—mother of my child will die.

I don’t think the Universe can handle that kind of paradox. When they return, the Time Lords will never forgive us. When you remember her, you will never forgive yourself.

There is a way for them to live again. And me, and you. Your life won’t be too long. Somewhere in the TARDIS, find my Scytale project.

You must return to her. She will need you more than any of our lives put together.”

NEXT TIME

You must return to her. She will need you more than any of our lives put together.

Should it be the next you that hears this, remember your place. You are unworthy of her love. Coward. Traitor. Give him back to her.”

Eight/Rose before the Time War

Chapter One: Gallifreyan Dawn

The light of the Gallifreyan dawn lit her skin, but it was not bright enough to outshine her sorrow. In that one moment, she became the glowing, expectant mother and the grieving widow. She had known all these years this day would come. No matter how she tried to hide it, she could not deny today.

Her husband beside her brushed his hand against her cheek. In his mind, he knew the future she saw, even though he dared never look for it. Pressing his lips to hers, he felt the child growing within her womb.

“I’m still with you,” he said.

“I know, love. I am still going to miss you.”

“You’ll never be a second without me. You give me hope for all the seconds I won’t have you.”

“I love you,” she said.

“I always love you,” he said. “Nothing changes that.”

A song gives The Doctor hope. Before “Rose”

He heard the cries of his people, and then the silence. He had wandered alone, his body dying, and his cells reforming. All this time, he heard a song, her song.

Since his seventh regeneration, he tried to find her. He loved Grace briefly, believing she was the woman. She had been the first he saw after his regeneration. The woman sang life into him and hope, but as he kissed Grace, it was not Grace’s voice that sang.

Many other people entered his life. He loved again with Charley, but that came to dust. He saved a corner of the universe for her, in a universe where she should have existed and braved Zagreus.

Every moment he hoped to repay the woman that sung to him. In his dreams, he saw her smile, but never her face.

As he formed into his Ninth incarnation, she sang again. Only her voice soothed him now. He could not hear the screams in his head, but worse now was the silence.

He would save one more world, and then join his brothers in oblivion. He pledged himself to his maiden, and pursued the Nestine Consciousness to Earth.

When he landed on Earth, her song became on order. He became so entranced with her, most of his thoughts of suicide left him.

He vowed that if he could find her, this Last of the Time Lords would have a purpose.

Torn between honor—suicide—and his love for his maiden, he formulated his attack plan on the Nestine Consciousness.

Chapter Two: I Can Only Give You Love

“It’s time for me to go, mum,” she said, her voice distant. “I must save everyone from the Daleks.”

“How can you when the Doctor here can’t” Jackie asked.

“I am the Bad Wolf. I have been and always will be the Bad Wolf. I am the Defender of Time.”

Across the room, The Doctor slowly opened his eyes. No, no!

“Do not be afraid, mum. You have Pete now. It’s time for me to go home.”

“You are home, sweetheart.”

“No, my home is with My Doctor. The Doctor, the other one.”

“But he died,” Mickey said. He gestured to the Tenth Doctor. “He became him.”

“No. My Doctor waits for me.”

Rose kissed her mother, Mickey, and Pete.

“Goodbye. I love you all. Promise to remember me, but move on with your lives.”

You may need me there

To carry all your weight

But you’re no burden I assure

You tide me over

With a warmth I’ll not forget

But I can only give you love

Chapter One: A Warmth I’ll Not Forget

The time war ended long ago – a war primarily fought between the Time Lords and the Daleks – leaving only The Doctor to survive. This is what history recorded, yet even this history slowly turned to myth. The myth was true, no legend, but tell that to the Daleks that now stood before Rose Tyler, The Doctor, Jackie Tyler, Pete Tyler, and Mickey Smith. Four people and one Gallifreyan against and entire army. Somehow, the Cybermen had returned, and with them were people from an alternative universe, mainly Pete and Mickey. This had been enough to revive the Daleks.

The Ninth Doctor within Ten reeled. Again, the Daleks would threaten to take Rose from him.

No one moved, too afraid of what might happen to Rose. Except Rose.

“Do you really think you will defeat us?” she asked.

“SI-LENCE, HU-MAN!”

“Have you heard of the Oncoming Storm?” Rose asked.

The Dalek that demanded her silence refocused its pupil within its eyestalk.

“I was there the day the false god – the one you call your emperor died.”

“THE EM-PER-OR ON-LY LEFT US. HE IS IM-MOR-TAL. HE DID NOT DIE.”

“I split his atoms, and I will split yours,” Rose vowed.

The Doctor reached out to touch Rose’s arm. His fingertips touched briefly, before she turned away. It was enough to see into her mind.

He saw the Ninth Doctor standing before him. Rose stood beside Nine and took his hand. She turned to Ten.

I will not let him die in vain. I will stop the ones who hurt you, My Doctor.

The Doctor tried to reach Rose again, but this time a mere wave of her hand – as she had when she destroyed the Daleks on Game Station – she flung him across the room.

Mickey backed away from her. Pete did not move. Jackie gasped.

“Rose, sweetheart, what’s happening?” Jackie asked.

Rose’s eyes began to glow gold, and time began to slow. The Daleks stood nearly still, but a temporal bubble around Rose allowed her to speak to the others.
